Default cigarette lighter problem

The only thing missing from my new 993 was the cigarette lighter. The previous owner couldnt find it. The car was mint so this was not going to be a stumbling block for my purchase. I tried to charge my cell phone and the adapter did not even light up. I tried the lighter from by BMW in the hole and it did not work either. I checked the fuses. I am starting to wonder if there is somthing special about the porsche lighter. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yup, the ID isn't typical for U.S. cars. There's a 2-second fix for the cell phone adapter, though. Take a key or any other similarly sized object, stick it under one of the two spring contacts in the adapter, then pry that puppy out til it pops out of the housing or you've bent it enough to make it fit in a larger hole. Then it fits fine. Simple and effective.

You may have the same problem I had when I bought my 993 and plugged the battery maintainer into the lighter socket, but I could not get a connection.
I discovered that the lighter socket had been disconnected inside the dash.
I had to take it to a porsche mechanic to get it re-connected since I could not reach the plug inside the dash.
To check, just slide out the lighter socket from the dash and see if it is plugged in in the back.
Good luck.

Hey Joel-

If it turns out that your receptacle is bad, I've got a new lighter receptacle in a box I don't need. I'll let you have it and even pay the shipping if you become a "Rennlist" member . The memberships far cheaper than the receptacle.

Joel:

.... and wait, if you become a member now, I'll throw in the lighter - as I have an extra if you need one. That's the lighter recepticle and the lighter....

Same deal as Steve's above. This truly is a "Steves' sponsored membership drive".
