With 5/95 split, the 993 AWD system is NOT an Audi or Subaru. I have no trouble inducing rear oversteer on my TT in the right conditions, not that I really WANT that on the street. The AWD system is marginally better than 2WD in inclement weather and fairly difficult to differentiate on the track. The 964 C2 vs. C4 is MUCH more easily differentiated.

Not sure on the '96 but our '97 C4 came standard with 18" wheels, silver calipers, ABS and LSD. The body is the the NB. I say standard 'cause I don't recall seeing them as "extra cost" line items on the window sticker.

I think the C4 was special to the Porsche engineers. It has the turbo's limited slip diff, viscous coupling all wheel drive system and 4-channel ABS brakes. The weight difference is 109 lbs.

And as stated many times, C4 behaves as rwd in most cases.

If condition is equal, I would suggest driving both cars and see which one feels better to you. No two 993s drive exactly alike.

The 18" wheels were optional and if equipped from the factory will show the option code on the underhood sticker.

I bought a C4 over a very similar C2 because my original plan was to DD it year round. I drove both and couldn't discern much of a difference back then, nowadays I think in very tight and fast turns I can detect the fronts pulling just enough (must be the 5% since I'm not losing traction) to make the car feel very stable.

I agree with Boober, there is a huge difference between C2 and C4 in the 964 due to the AWD tech - the 964 C4 basically is an understeering pig - while most drivers won't be able to distinguish between the two concepts on the 993 platform.

To the OP - buy based on condition, options, history etc. since for most drivers in most conditions the drivetrain makes no difference. Even though a 1996 993 C4 coupe is among the rarest configurations (if not the rarest save for RS etc., too lazy to look up production/sales numbers) I'm not holding out any hope that this will impact my car's value anytime soon, if at all... :cheers:

Although rare for MY 1996 in North America, the NB 993 C4 coupe was quite popular in ROW markets.

Love my Triple Black C4. Hugs those twisty roads and gives me a little more sense of security at high speeds on wet days. Drove both before purchasing and went with C4. Unless you are tracking it you really will have a hard time differentiating. Love the extras that are also standard on the Turbo. No matter which one you purchase, happy days are in your near future. Buy the best car based on condition.

I'm I wrong to think that tire choice can make a bigger difference than this choice?

You guys are great thank you solo much !! Looks like the c2 it is ! Unless c4 dealer calls me and lowers his price !! Lastly. Although the top is in good condition I would like to replace it with a new one. Any idea how much a new top INSTALLED will run me. Thanks again
