Check Engine Light - Help Please
Hi all,
I haven't had much luck in trying to diagnose this check engine light code since I bought the car 5 months ago. The independent porsche shop wants to run a costly smoke test to find the leak, but I was hoping that someone else has run across this code. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Adam

Where do you live? I think plenty of places will check it for free. I know of one gas station owner who just bought a C2S who will gladly run these checks for free on any Porsche, just because he likes to talk to other Porsche owners.
Hi Rick,
I live in the wonderful state of Connecticut. There are many porsche shops around here, but they all want $$$. I was hoping that someone on rennlist has seen this code and can point me in the right direction for a DIY.
Thanks again,
Adam

Hi Adam,
What’s a “smoke test?” Is that where the mechanic blows a lot of smoke and money disappears from your wallet?
I would guess that “Gross Evaporation Leak” would be related to the canister that holds gas fumes from the tank and sends them into the intake to be burned. I’d check all the hoses and the canister for signs of leakage, cracks, etc. I think there is a sniffer type tool that can sniff out these kinds of leaks. It doesn’t sound like a major problem for a good mechanic. Of course it’s not going to be free, but it should be too costly.
