IMO one of the most underrated cars. I get irritated when they are called "chic cars". having owned a 1991 Miata and having plenty of miles in a 3000 mkIII I will attest that the original Miata is a legitimate sports car.
yeah. liking a Miata may challenge the senses of a P-car fan. but the 993 crowd appreciates refined purity over almost anything else in a car. and the Miata is one of few modern examples to do this as well. it forces you to hang your ego on the shelf and enjoy the drive.
and, frankly, the stigma of it being a "Porsche" is one of the most unattractive qualities of the 993. I can't pull into Target with near the ambiguity that I can in my e30.
so there. curious if anyone else agrees.

My mom got one when they first came out in 1989. I remember seeing a magazine article when I was at the grocery store and ran home and told her she needed to get one. Next thing I know, I'm off at college and she sends me a picture of hers. Red with a red hard top. I took possession of the car in 1992 and had a blast driving it. College girls dig convertibles.

Owning a 993 and 2 Miatas (race NB, street NC), I seriously don't care of perceptions for any of them. The last car of these three that I bought was an NC a year ago. That, after some quick debate of what I'd want for an inexpensive and easy-lifestyle car that's fun to drive down in Miami for 4 months out of the year. NC won over a 996 cab (same price), 993 cab (familiarity), E46 cab (rear seats). NC beat them all in "easy" category.
BTW, I'm not a fan of ND on the photos. It looks too serious and grown up and at the same time too generic. People say it looks much better in person. Could be a suitable replacement for my NC 5-6 years down the road.

I immediately thought Z3 butt with Z4 fender flares...Looks awful bulky/heavy...Another nimble sports car headed in the direction of becoming a corpulent tourer.
EDIT: I stand corrected about the weight...

What's not to like about this new Miata? Looks like a winner to me

Looks like a pretty nice car and I'm impressed they managed to avoid porking it up.
Don't have a Miata but I do have an MR2 Spyder which is a fairly similar type car.
