What part of the white LED base doesn't fit? They seem to look very similar.

Anyone found LED's that do fit and work well for instrument gauge background lighting?

Agree, they do look very similar - but similar doesn't make it fit and work.

Look closer.

I bought these:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...panel-led/223/

Part Number: B8.4D-WHP | UPC: 847781010404

They work great! You do need to get a key and bend the metal tabs on each side at about a 80 degree angle so they don't fall out. Here is how they look - even illumination, no spottiness, and way brighter and clearer than standard. The dimmer works too.

deekay911.

Just what I'm looking for. Which one did you use - 8D-3D, 4D or 5D?
How many are needed for the 5 993 gauges?

My OE turn signal lights are hardly visible in day light - did you change yours to LED?
Is what did you use?

Deekay911 has the correct bulb type (the B8.4D) if you want to replace the bulb and base as one unit, but they are made in China and have a "fair" fit if you bend the tabs a bit to make them more snug. They work ok for the backlighting (I think you need 11 to replace in all gauges). Also they only come in cool white and not warm white so they will not match the OEM hue for your other instruments like your CCU.

There are T5 wedge bulbs that come in more colors and seem to be a more reliable bulb (also come in omnidirectional 3 SMD form which seem to be even more uniform on light pattern compared to the B8's). However, they require a separate slip in base (#74) which I'm having a hard time finding that truly fits our cars well.

I've described a lot of what I've found in this post:

Unfortunately, I've dropped the project for a while with other things more important. I've shared my concerns with Tore and we are, hopefully, going to work on a good LED package sometime later when he has more time as well.

Regarding replacing all the warning lights in the gauges, you can easily change the turn signals, high beams, and a few others for a much brighter look. However, some bulbs can throw codes (like the airbag and central warning light) as the computer does not sense the less resistive LED bulbs as being present and tries to warn that these bulbs are blown. So this is another reason why I wanted to work with Tore to figure something out.

I ordered 15 of the 4D type which gave me a couple of spares. Other than simply bending the tabs a little to make them tight, they fit quite well. I only changed the nighttime illumination bulbs (I think there were 11 of them), not the indicator/warning bulbs themselves.

I too tried the T5 bulb inserts but could not find a reliable #74 base for them. the current solution has been in place for maybe a year and had no issues whatsoever.

Are you referring to these tabs? Bend it downward?

Thanks!

Exactly - can't remember which way, but you need to bend them a little to fit the thickness of the PCB.

Sorry, one more question, would this LED be good for the OBC?

I think i have 2 or 3. Porsche didn't let me buy them individually. I don't have the car anymore so if you can wait until early october when i go home for a couple of days I can ship them over to u

EDIT: nevermind, i just read you wanted to replace them all with LED, although i think they are anyway haha. But PM me if you still want them.
