cleaning out gas tank

Default cleaning out gas tank

i have never seen this much crap in a plastic tank. anyone clean out their tank before and what did you use? also is there a trick to getting the screen out? mine just turns but id like to get it out as it looks kind of rusty in there. thanks

The screen is centered in the "swirl pot"; a device used to control windage and keep fuel at the pickup when the level is very low. Its simply screwed into the bottom rear of the tank so you can easily replace it.

If it has never been removed before, it can take some effort to loosen the threads.

yeah it was really tough to break loose but it keeps turning without actually coming out. wasnt sure if i was missing something.

Hmmm,..the threaded insert in the plastic may be turning,.......

I replaced mine when I had the tank out for evaporator replacement. I didn't have any issues, it just unscrewed. The filter screen itself looked almost like the new one. There was certainly no rust or other significant crud in my tank.

If there is any rust in your tank than it's coming out of the storage tanks underground, unfortunately. It's surprising how much crud is actually found in gasoline before it makes it to our cars.
