I asked a local shop about a thorough PPI for a 993 yesterday (yes, they were open) and they quoted me $431!!! Is a leakdown or compression check much more involved for a twin-plugged car? I'm still a mere Carrera owner. Also, a '95 993 I drove yesterday had a ticking noise at idle. I've read that could be a bad valve lifter. What does repairing this entail? Lots of money, an engine drop, minor fix? Thanks.

If you send me an e-mail, I can scan the form for you and you can see what was covered. Have you tried Heishmans?
Ticking sound on my old '84 Carrerra meant new valve guides. $$$.

actually a compression test and/or leakdown is easier on a twin plugged car. The tech can access the lower plugs VERY easily compared to the top ones...
A PPI shouldn't cost more than $225 IMHO
