Just found oxidation on an otherwise spotless car

Anyone familiar with oxidation up front, on the drivers side of the fuel cell, at the bottom of the compartment? See the series of pictures attached!

I am not sure it is oxidation. It may simply be the remainder of the dried release agent from when the plastic was molded. What is your concern with it?

Looks like rust in the low recess by the fuel tank. Not a crisis - just get it cleaned up, and if you live in a wet climate look to see where the water ingress is.
If you live in a dry climate, just keep an eye on it and dry it up when you wash the car.

Aha. Yes, a common place for water to pool when there's a leak at the cowl vent or along the rear of the hood seal. That cubby is pretty well seam-sealed, so the leak had to have been long-term. Not a biggie if the rest of the car is nice.
