Just be careful with earplugs off of the track...heaven help you if you missed a siren or were in an accident...I'm sure you could hear the horn and all that, but the way lawyers are today (sorry to anyone in the profession), that could be what they come after you for.

I have noticed the same thing when I had my boxster. I'd go top down for a couple of hours and arrive deaf ! ;-) Of course until then my only experience with cabs had been a Karmann Ghia which was too slow to be noisy at speed !

that's one of the multiple reasons I sold the boxster, that and sunburns, depreciation, lack of HP, no real metal roof...

I agree with other posters, new tires aren't going to make that much of a difference. I remember reading about Yokohama AVS DB tires which had a tread pattern optimized for reduced noise and even they were only talking about 1.2 db difference in sound.

I know that if your car is lowered it does aggravate the noise coming off the road, so maybe it is worthwhile to get other tires.
