Need feedback on FDM Golden Rod/SSK please
I have a feeling this will be a very controversial title, as everyone seemed to have loved the conversion. I had mine done over the winter. I don't have anyone around here that has done it to compare, so I don't know if what I am experiencing is normal or not, or if it was just a bad install.
Here are my issues, and you guys can let me know if you are experiencing the same thing and you like the feeling, or are mine just installed wrong, and I am not getting the right experience:
The shifts feel very metal on metal, and getting into 2nd gear feels notchy. If I Jam it into 2nd with a little force, there is resistance with the notchy sound and feeling. If I jam it in really hard, there is a loud noise.
SSK, the shorter throws are not very noticeable to me at all, but I read about that before hand, so I was not expecting a big difference.
i am considering switching back to stock, but before I do, would love to get some of your feedback....TIA,
Sam

I didn't think SSK was much shorter so I skipped it. I've driven C4S with SSK and GR and thought shifting was great, perhaps yours is not installed properly or there is another issue.
I think GR makes a big difference, yes the shifts are more metal on metal but also more crisp as there is no more big rubber pillow in there.
Also keep in mind that GR exposes other issues (worn motor mounts, maybe need tranny flush)
Reach out to FDM and see what they have to say, they have been pretty helpful when I had popping 1st gear issue.
I'm still having issue with 1st gear popping out when car is cold, so need to shorten mine further.

Post up your location and see if there is anyone close to you so you can confirm; not for you or installed wrong.
I installed the FDM Golden Rod (No SSK) last spring and it was a noticeable improvement, not night and day but definite positive difference in feel.

i had a similar experience, it turned out my shop did not clearance the cover under the car enough.
i brought it back, told them-they promptly did the necessary "massaging" with a nice big hammer and it was MUCH better.
in regards to shorter "shifts" there is not a big difference in throw length, but it is shorter.
i believe C2 does not require this mod.
i would call FD and ask them their opinion as well.

Agreed make sure there is enough clearance under that cover, you can even add some sort of lubricant to ensure if it possibly hits the cover it won't grind etc.
I noticed a significant reduction, I'd say 30% vs factory 4S set up on my brother's car. And we did both the GR + SSK too. Very pleased so something def doesn't sound right with your install.
