993 will NOT start with full battery/new DME
Hey Listers,
It started after a winter lay-up, had Fuel Stabilizer in the tank over the winter, then drove a couple of hunted miles, filled up with 94 grade fuel.
Then it had trouble starting, but it did. Two days ago, it barely started… now it will not start.
Replaced the DME Relay, no dice, battery is fully charged, but now not even a sputter…
Any ideas before going to a Porsche shop? Any help really appreciated!!!
Bert, with a 993 not running in Calgary.

Suggestions:
If your starter is not spinning the engine, I would start by cleaning the battery cables to include both ends of the ground cable and putting a load test on the battery. You'd be surprised by how many "fully charged" batteries will not function under load.
If your starter is spinning the engine but the engine will not fire, make a 3-wire jumper, pull the DME relay, use the jumper to connect pins 30, 87 & 87b and then try to start the car. If it runs, the problem is with your DME relay (Some are bad right out of the box).
If your battery is good, the cables are clean, and using the jumper does not start the car, see if you can hear the fuel pump running when you turn the ignition key on with the jumpers in place.

Thanks for your suggestions, it turned out to be the infamous Immobilizer… I kept a piece of paper with the cycling procedure of the unit… kind of complex system with having to turn the key off and on many times… in a way to match your code ( who thought this up, eh?)
Somebody posted this a long time ago and I kept it in the glovebox! Whomever this was, THANKS A LOT!

Sounds like the issue has been fixed, but the root cause is still unknown.
