Default Cali, Fix it Ticket...

So I got a fix it ticket for no front plate. Here's the thing. I don't want to put a front plate on. Can I just ignore it, pay the fine and not put a front plate on?

How much will the fine be? If I don't fix it, will the fine keep escalating?

Or do I need to put the dredded ugly front plate on?

thx.

B-Line,

I really believe that you MUST fix the car, or there will be fines, AND the inability to register the car in the future.

Figure out some "temporary" solution for the plate. I'm thinking some double-backed tape, and some fake "bolt heads" (just glued on to the plate). Adhesive remover will clean up any tape marks later.

Where were you when you got this ticket? Fully 10% of the cars in California operate without a front plate, and are never hassled, even when stopped for some other infraction (ask me how I know).

Bummer.

10% without a front plate? Where I live it is EASY 30-40%. Very few of the BMWs, SUVs, Lexus, etc have one. I even installed the front bumper replacement for the holder on my BMW, and I have no holes for one on the Porsche. I don't even think my dog Woody has a tag...

Default Happens all the time in SF

The San Francisco cops are notorious for giving you a front plate fix-it along with the now $40 meter tickets. Anything to drive revenue to Willie's coffers. All you have to do is get your plate on temporarily and have a local cop sign off on the ticket. Just has to stay on long enough for a quick look. I've never had a cop look really close - usually they just stand there and fill out the form - 5 minutes tops.

I got one too (he gave me a choice of "speeding" or "no front plate").

When I went to get it signed off (they never checked...), I zip-tied it to the bottom of the bumper (to the black grill). I took it off when I got home.

Done.

Seth,

I got one of those damn front-plate-missing tickets in my 993 and my wife's Odyssey. Paid them both, no problems. Like you and many others here, I won't uglify the front end ...so long as it's reletively cheap, that is. Technically, it's not a "fix it" so you're ok just paying it. I assume this is an LA ticket. I can't speak for other jurisdictions.

I had the same issue on my Jag. I used screws through the plate attached to some large rubber bands behind the plate that went around a piece of the front spoiler. When I got home I took it right off. No big deal.

Thanks for the info guys..
I got the ticket on %^&$ Melrose. I swear, everytime I go down that steet something happens to me. It's just a bad luck street for me.
There was no fine on the summonds, it is a fix it.. but I'm going to assume if I don't fix it they'll send me a fine..
So when the bill comes in the mail, I'll let you know what it cost..
Damn the man..

I've never heard people getting pulled over for no front license but what usually happens is that when you park, the traffic police who check up on who's parking where also look for people with non-moving violations. So the trick is not to park on public streets or places that are patrolled often.

Install it in the lower front grill. I have seen guys do this in Ohio with no problems.

Hey Phil..

Yes, I was pulled over while driving for the fix it ticket. I wasn't doing anything wrong either. Just slowly cruising down Melrose on my way to the 10. Then office CHiPS pulled me over.
Well, at least he didn't take me out of the car and beat me with his night stick. (it is L.A. after all.) ha!

So that's why you were late for our last drive! Now you can plan ahead and make the 8/17 drive!
