Moving Seat Rails?
Did a search but didn't find an answer. I am 6'6" and looking at both a 97 & 98 c2s. I just sat in a 96 cab and I was fine with the headroom but leg room was shot. Is there a way to move the rails back?
Just crushed since this is the car I wanted since I was a teenager.

May want to consider after market seat/race seat - this way you can use the mounting brackets and mount right to the seat mounts the rails fasten to... This will lower the seat height an inch or 2. You'd be nixing the rails/adjustability at this point.
I know you are looking to move the seat back, but the height is going to be just as big of a problem.
I believe there are some hole options on the rails to move back and/or it shouldn't be too difficult to modify sliders with a couple extra bolt holes.
Good luck

How bad do you want it?
If you want a simple fix, there really isn't one. The problem with the coupe, and I assume the cab is the same, is the top is curved. The factory has it set so that: in its most rearward position, the seat puts your head at the tallest point of the curve. If you push it back further, you rapidly loose headroom.
It’s been awhile since I looked at a stock seat, but if I remember correctly you can push it back an inch or so with a little ingenuity . There are two bolts (in series) at the front of the rail, and two at the rear. At the rear there are actually 2 mounting positions. You can shift the rail back an inch and the rear will line right up, but the front would will lose the first bolt. You can take your chances and leave it with a single bolt, or fabricate a reinforcement to compensate.
I’m 6’4 and needed clearance for both the helmet (2inches) plus 2 inches of additional clearance (safety margin) as well as needing to push the seat back. The stock seats sit on very tall tower structures. A competent race shop can cut those towers down and re-engineer to keep the strength but put the seat wherever you want it. With the towers gone, there is plenty of room.
I assume you have big feet… Another thing you can look at is lowering your feet (heel). The floorboard is actually two layers. The actual floor, an inch of insulation and a false floor above that. You can remove the false floor by the pedal cluster to lower your feet (and thus your knees) to gain a little more room… Again not a simple fix, but if you really want it (like I did) you can make it happen.

I don't get it. This repeats itself all of the time: "I searched, but couldn't find anything...." All you have to do is put your exact title into search, and you get a bunch of threads. Some are all over the place, but there are a few that answer your specific question.
There is a second set of holes, that give you another inch. Not a lot, but it helps. Then, there are some that have modded or purchased seat rails that probably get another inch. Of course, that doesn't do much for headroom, but a Targa or Cab may help, or a non-sunroof coupe, which is rare.

I did move the passenger seat rails back about an inch to give myself more leg room when my wife drives. Very easy to do, not sure about the drivers side, but I would look into it if I was you. 993's are great cars. Mark
