Replace K&N cone air filter with stock air box?
I've read through the archives and know that the consensus here is that the K&N cone filter really doesn't help the engine breathe any better than the stock air filter, and is therefore, considered a waste of money. However, my 96 993 had the cone filter on it when I bought it. The stock air box did not come with it. I am wondering if it is worth spending the money to put the stock air box back on the car. The engine runs just fine... no check engine light. I would certainly not have spent the money to put the K&N filter on the car, but since it's there, I would probably just leave it on the car--unless there's some reason I should take it off. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Rob.

There have been some degredation problems reported with the cone K&N. If that happens then you can go for a motorsound box or a stock and open some holes on it to keep a nice sound. While you may not add any ponies, i do not think you loose much either so why bother?

Hi Rob,
K&Ns have a good reputation over here so unless you have issues over not having an original airbox I would just leave it. It's not likely to do any harm and I bet is probably sounds as good (maybe louder??) than the stock airbox.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers,
David
