Arrrrggghhh! Cold solder joints are a nightmare. I'm sure we will experience many more of them in the years to come on these cars. DMEs are leading the way in this area, but the immobilizer is not far behind I see.

Daxmainian, Highly impressive debug work, with all the plots and oscope data, etc.

This right here.

Awesome job, so glad you didn't give up. I'm smiling just thinking about that feeling you got when it ran smooth for the first time!

Your tenacity has been rewarded!
Woo hoo!

This makes me want to pull my immobilizer and have its through hole solder connections checked.

Could you see any evidence of solder cracking or did it just look like a sub-standard solder job?

I was wondering the same thing.

Also, having gone thru all you did, do you have any advice for other gremlin chasers what order you might start going thru the many items.

I couldn't see real obvious evidence of solder cracking.
It was because I had this problem also with the controller for the cabriolet roof, which I also resoldered, that I thought this could be the same.

Any advice? First try to find out what exactly is going on. This was difficult in this case because everything seemed to work. I had to take out the special tools to find this out, the oscilloscope that is.

Had my first real test drive today, felt really good. Had a huge smile the whole drive.
