The only part of my 993 that I was disappointed with was the audio system, so I decided to replace it. I read through many Rennlist threads getting ideas and valuable information that made the process much easier. Most of what I did was stolen from others ideas on this forum, but I'll post some pictures in case it may help someone with a future project.

My main objective was to make my installation as clean/unobtrusive as possible. I didn't want to cut any wiring in the car, so I started by trying to find the harness connector used in the Nokia amp. This allowed me to tap into the factory harness without cutting anything. I had to buy several of them, so if anyone wants one I'd be happy to sell you one.

The terminals on the connector come out and make a 90 degree turn in order to be soldered onto a circuit board (like the Nokia amp). I bent the terminals so they were strait, then cut them to down to a more manageable size.

I soldered my new Rockford Fosgate amplifier outputs to the plug connector. I put shrink tube on all the unused terminals.

Here is the old Nokia amp next to the new setup. I mounted the Rockford Fosgate amplifier to a piece of Masonite that is the same footprint of the Nokia Amp. This way I can use the original screws/mounting points under the passenger seat.

It was tough to get a good picture here, but this is the front of the amplifier with the seat re-installed. There is plenty of clearance for the seat to move and for heat dissipation.

I replaced my Alpine tape player / 6-disc changer with the Pioneer MVH-X560BT. I was looking for something with modern technology but that wasn't an obnoxious light show. The amber screen matches the rest of the instruments fairly well. The interesting thing about this unit is that it doesn't have a CD player (bluetooth was all I was interested in) and therefore is only half as deep as a standard single-Din head unit.

Installation was very strait forward. I used RCA's for the output to the amplifier and soldered this adapter together to connect to the 993 harness and the new head unit. Again, my objective was to not cut any wires in the car.

I found many threads concerning replacement of the rear speakers in non-HiFi optioned cars, but I couldn't find any where HiFi rear speakers were replaced. Since the speaker grills are a different shape on the HiFi 993's, I don't think a 4x6 would have fit. Maybe it would have with some finessing, but I had some 5.25" Focal components and decided to use them.

First I cut out the frames of the speaker grills as everyone else has:

Then I made a masonite backer for the 5.25" Focal's to mount in, and secured it using the same screws/holes that the original speaker frame used:

I used safety wire to secure the frame of the grill to the masonite. In this picture the left is complete; the right one is crooked because it is just sitting there.

For the front speakers I chose a JBL component 6.5" set (MS-62C). The tweeters were perfect fit inside the original tweeter pods. No modification was necessary, and they were snug inside. The mid's are too big for the factory door holes, and I needed a place to mount the crossovers anyway, so I made mounts out of 1/2" MDF.
