Default Help: CEL after top-end rebuild

After a lengthy top end rebuild on my 1996 C2 the CEL is coming on. The code is 1140. My indy shop has done the work and the car has been returned to them for the last 4 consecutive days. Each time they had found either a loose or pinched vacuum line, fixed it, reset the computer and sent me out with it to see. After about 20-30 miles of HWY/city driving the CEL is back. The car runs great and no other apparent issues. Any ideas?

Do a google search on, "Porsche CEL code 1140"

Here's one of the links of discussion...

"...Like others have mentioned, vacuum/boost leak is the most common cause of this code"

Are you saying the throttle cable was interfering with a vacuum line on the cruise control? I.e. vacuum line was disconnected?

I believe this is correct - shop said the throttle cable was too tight and binding against the cruise control vacuum line.

Rob at German Auto in Alameda CA. Excellent work, he has been there for 30 years.

We started the top end to address the SAI ports and ended up doing a lot more to make the car almost new - cams, lifters, valve guides, exhaust valves, rocker arms, injectors, chain tensioners, ignition wires, rotors, clutch. Everything was cleaned and polished and it now runs better than ever:reckon:.

"I believe this is correct - shop said the throttle cable was too tight and binding against the cruise control vacuum line."

The 993 cruise control system does not use vacuum like the older Porsches,
i.e. It uses a servo motor to move the throttle linkage.

"Sounds like a really knowledgeable shop."

Sorry, the shop must have said "cruise control" as I stated in my first post.
The P1140 code means "improper adjustment of operating cable for cruise control", "throttle position sensor" and "false air".

Thanks for pointing this out.
