Has anyone ever drained their transmission filled with Swepco 201? I was doing my annual maintenance on the tranny this weekend (I switched to Redline for both engine and tranny) and noticed the most god awful smell when I started draining the transmission filled with Swepco. My wife walked by the garage and noticed it immediately, she thought something had died in the garage. Anyone else experience this?
BTW, the fluid looked just as green as the day I put it in there. Makes me think I should have waited another year.

I have not drained old swepco, but I have topped off my 356 with it. It stinks a bit... So did the old oil in my 993 (wasn't swepco, looked like mobil 1). Nothing to make your eyes water though !

Jim, that's interesting. As soon as I opened the drain plug, I smelled it. It wasn't faint, it was really strong. I wonder if it's a sign of something.

I just drained the factory fill on my car, and was pleased to find that it didn't stink of sulphur like most gear oils. I assume it was Mobil 1 from the factory. Hardly any metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug, I am happy to report. I put in new Motul Gear 300 synthetic, and it didn't smell either.
Of the two, I actually prefer the Mobil 1 by a small margin. When cold, (70 degrees) the Motul seems to grind going into 2nd gear just a tad more. Once warmed up, no difference at all.
I thought that Swepco was better for the older trannies, and that G50s were better off with synthetic geal oil?
