Default bike rack?

with a non-foreign car friendly clientele and 3 young kids, one of the few opportunities to use my incoming 993 is when can get away to do some mtn biking.

what do you make of this?

Why not use a Thule or Yakima rack that attaches to the rain rails?

wind noise. cumbersome to install and remove before and after every ride. potential to scratch rails (black car). wind noise.

I like the simplicity of it but would have reservations about putting my $3,000 Cervelo on it.

If the surface weren't clean I would imagine it would be pretty easy to come off. I'm paranoid. I need to put a tether on my mom's Swift Hitch back up camera when its held on by suction cups.

A friend has a Cayman, and regularly uses and swears by the sea sucker. Expensive bikes too. No issue.

My friend has a maserati so no rain rails. He did a bunch of research and talked to a few people and everything he found was extremely positive about those suction mounts. No first hand experience but personally I'd trust them as much as I trust my Yakima rack with my ****ty quick bike mounts.

I guess. I'd answer no, no, maybe, and no to the above. I put 10K miles with the Yakima on, probably 2/3 with the rack, during the Epic Winter of '10-'11. While my car is silver, I don't notice any scratching.

The guys I know who use the suction cups are happy with them.

Very interesting product. Looks like the seasucker could work well for those of us with Targas.

I may be wrong, but am under the impression that traditional aftermarket racks won't work with the targa, and the original Porsche one is impossible to find.

I know sports cars guy's who swear by the Sea Sucker rack strategy. Does the company have TUV approval?

We have the OEM 964/993 Porsche rack and when in use its secured to the 993s roof. Expensive bike? Suction cups?
I'm old fashion - as this scares me especially driving at 85+ mph across the windy Colorado mts..

What about using one of these with a simple hitch mount bike rack?

Looks cool, but doesn't look like that will take a receiver for the hitch bike mount.

Willwood also makes a hitch-mount rack.

Wilwood's system is pretty nice. The ones I know of require a small rectangular cut in the bumper skin, but a hinged rear license plate covers it up really well.
