Default Curious rough running problem

Folks,

I was driving my 993 tiptronic this morning when it gave some trouble (its been fine all week)

About a mile into my journey (from cold) it started to splutter when pulling away, it would idle fine but on light throttle it would falter.

This got worse to the point that it eventually stalled, I could start it by putting my foot to the floor and cranking it for 10secs or so, After it cleared itself it would run OK and seemed to rev but if you put it in Drive and tried to pull away it would falter and stall. In the end the only way I could get it to move was to hold the revs at about 2500 and drop it into drive, If kept it in 2nd and kept the revs up I could keep it going but if I let the revs drop it would falter and stall. It would still idle in Neutral no problem.

Any ideas of what to look for?

Cheers

I'd look at if the fuel filter needs replacement and cleaning the MAF.

Did occur to me but thought it was odd that the problem was only at low revs, having read that thread though it seems this fits. Certainly hope it's that simple. Will fit a new one.

I still say fuel filter and pull the MAF and clean. Good PM items, and maybe $20-25. Sounds fuel related.

Rain could have been the culprit. Moisture can get under the distributor cap and mess with the ignition. I've also had a problem with bad spark wires. Let the car dry out completely and see if it improves.

This has happened to me before on my tip! If it rained, and you have never replaced your distributor and rotors thats the problem. My car would stall and then die. Make sure you buy bosch only. Also I replaced the spark plug wires too later.

I realise I had left it parked with the spoiler raised also which wouldn't have helped! It's inside now drying out so we'll see if that "fixes" it.

Cheers

Well after a day or two in the dry the car is back to normal, so I guess it doesn't like getting wet!
