Default Pic Request - Shifter

Hello,

I just finished by SSK and GR install and have a small favour to ask you guys. Could someone post a pic of the shifter in 5th gear?

I'm curious to see if I have the **** all the way down as the leather boot seems a bit tight when I'm in 5th...

TIA!

Hi Martin,

I have the FDM SSK and GR installed. No tightness on my boot when in 5th.

That's WAY looser than mine! Could i ask you to measure the distance from top of the shifter boot (bottom of the ****) to the ledge of the shifter level opening?

I put almost all of my weight on to the **** when I was re-installing it but maybe it's not on all way...

That would be 9 cm. I recall that there is a cap screw on my **** that locks it in position to the shifter, and that the shifter had some indents in it to accept that cap screw. My **** fits over the shifter very easily, then I lock it down with that cap screw, then pull the leather boot down and over the cap screw, and snap it into the bottom opening.

Depending on which shift **** you have some are more lose than others. The standard **** that came with my car is much more lose than my C2S **** but I wouldn't discribe either of them as tight.

I think there is an adjustment bolt on the front of the GR/SSK that adjusts the back-to-front position of the shifter. You need two people.. one in the car, and one below to adjust it. Mine was very tight at first.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to check adjustment screw but I think I had tightened it up fully.

Here's a pic of mine, what do you think?

My C2S ****/boot looked just like that too after FDM installed the GR/SSK, which I attributed to the longer shift rod. That stretched look really annoyed me after a while and my solution was to replace it with an RS shift ****, which looks much better in fit, and it actually lowered the **** height a bit too.

As the RS shift is taller than standard buy 20mm or so that will happen, either cut 20mm off the top or get the RS boot!

Ahh, thanks Pervy! It all makes perfect sense now. My guess is that it's taller by the 20mm to be reduce the distance the hand has to travel from the wheel to the shifter?

Mine is exactly like this. FDM suggested cutting down 20mm if it was a concern but I have lived with it and don't notice it any more. I don't like the RS gaiter which seems poor quality.

I was going to replace with an ebay cheapy to see if the length may be different but not got around to that (low priority)

Originally I thought the gaiter might pull the car out of fifth but that hasn't proved the case.
