Default Worthwhile upgrade - RS motor mounts

Just finished installing RS motor mounts this morning...As for the NHV; I think the car sounds better, and so does the GF

I followed the P-car DIY, and had to chuckle that the instructions do not address a relatively unmolested 993, which has blanks covering the bottom access holes to the motor mount nuts.

I could literally see approx 1/2 - 5/8 of slop in my motor mounts when I put the jack under my engine. Once installed, sag has been significantly reduced, and the car shifts noticibly better when cold.

I can only imagine how things wiii feel with a GR/SSK to compliment the firmer motor mounts.

I have to say I am very pleased with the net results!

I just finished the SSK/GR install this evening and the RS mounts are on my list as well. I only have 36k miles on my C2S so they're a bit lower on the priority list.

Good job

Will it be any easier to do this if the car is up on the lift with the rear end apart or does it need to be down to lift the engine, which is what would think?

Shop is putting my PSS10's on now and replacing all the rear suspension with RS parts, so if this is something that makes sense I might just add to the list.

63k on my car, so can't be far behind in terms of play/wear at almost 20 years... want that short shifter too

Also in So Cal

I just got my RS mounts. I did the SSK and the GR a few months back. Words can't explain how much better the SSK and GR made the car feel. Going to crack open a few beers and install the motor mounts this weekend.

BTW, I'm also in So Cal...

Got them from http://www.paragon-products.com/ and they were $487, I didn't shop around that much to be honest, the just happened to have other things that I needed that were listed far cheaper than anywhere else so. In the process I just ended up pulling the trigger on the mounts.

I think Sunset has RS mounts for around $350 with all the necessary hardware. I installed the GR/SSK and noticed a difference but not as dramatic as some here make it out to be and my car is creeping up on 150k miles. Prehaps my motor mounts are the weak link in the chain? The pit continues to deepen.

I also bought my RS mounts from Andraya at Sunset- great service.
I must admit that I don't love the increased nvh but the overall setup with 030 bars, ssk, etc is great. With 150k on the clock I think you will notice the difference. If it's on the lift a shop will just use a tranny jack (a what!?) to raise the motor, so do it now.

You also need to consider the transmission mount insert from Function First. I was very impressed with how smooth cold shifts are now. GR/SSK is also a no brainer.

Can you give more detail on the before and after of the F1 insert?

My syncros are showing their age especially with 1 to 2 shifts. New engine mounts and Redline NS gear oil have helped, but still looking for more improvement before I bite the bullet for a rebuild.

I installed Wevo black mounts last fall, and they made a big difference as other here have said. Installation was less difficult, say, than getting the car up on jacks. If you have a socket wrench, extension, and a torque wrench you are set, IIRC. Just have to be careful supporting the engine while the mounts are disconnected.
