Hi all,
I was wondering how many 993 X51 were sold in USA(if any,but OPO that I know).
IIRC there could be some issue with the EPA law,am I correct?
Cheers

The 3.8 upgrade (X51) was not officially available for North America 993 production. Availability through alternate channels such as Andial Motorsports, etc., or other private shop is another story.

There were two kits, one for non-varioram and one for varioram engines.
The non-varioram 1995 X-50 kit was part number 993.100.904.00 and is NLA. This was just 3.8 pistons and cylinders, RS cams and an RS single belt fan drive. This kit uses stock DME unit.
The varioram 1995 - 98 X-50 kit is an active part number 000.044.100.00 and list price is $21,209 right now. This kit includes all in 1995 kit plus RS heads, valves and associated manifold parts to adapt heads plus RS mufflers and a different DME unit.
As pointed out an after market installation was only option in USA for these kits and I think not many people knew about them at the time the cars were sold.

FWIW the local P-car shop down here has a MY95 993 cup engine for sale with a bunch of original bits that came with the car. They are a RL sponsor so perhaps it will get posted in the classifieds if not sold prior. If anyone is interested, send me a PM and I'll make the connection.

Cupcar,
just to clarify,
I believe you intended X51(X50 should be for Turbo).
Yes you are correct in the 2 kits.
The varioram engine kit is composed by:
993.102.050.41 pulley x1 (puleggia RS pacchetto touring/confort M64.20 M573)
993.106.051.80 wheel hub x1 (RS)
993.103.915.70 piston and cylinder set 102 mm x6 (RS) con riporto superficiale in GRAFAL
999.707.152.40 o-ring x6 (RS)
993.104.035.44 cylinder head x6 (RS)
993.105.409.42 intake valve x6 (RS)
993.105.419.42 exhaust valve x6 (RS)
993.105.247.41 cam shaft /L x1 (RS)
993.105.246.41 cam shaft /R x1 (RS)
993.110.722.00 intake connection x6 (RS)
993.110.723.40 sealing rings x6 (RS)
993.110.181.43 intake manifold x2 (RS)
993.618.124.78 or 85 control unit DME x1 (RS)
993.111.045.05 or 10 muffler /L x1 (RS)
993.111.046.05 or 10 muffler /R x1 (RS)
993.618.124.78 resistor x1
Gasket set
I was wondering if EPA blocked the import of those engines in USA.
Will the 25 years get rid of the BAN?
Cheers everybody

Some states have an agency that monitors aftermarket parts, in Ca it is CARB
Some states and some localities have regular emissions inspections sometimes just visual but also sometimes a sniffer or even dyno test, while the cars probably could have passed there would have been few takers due to cost and potential trouble
At inspection time where I live any '96 up car(OBD2) gets plugged int a state computer, any codes that are shown are immediate cause for failure, there is a procedure outlining monetary limits but basically money needs to be spent to rectify the situation, sometimes a waiver will be given but it is all a RPITA, For '95 and earlier(OBD1 and preOBD) it's only the usual safety inspection, for that reason my toys are 1995 and 1976

The issues with OBD 2 993's here in CA eliminated them from consideration when I was shopping - making for slim pickings when I wanted a rust free, white car with 4 channel ABS option.
