Unhappy Any AC experts here ?

Whenever I am running my AC lately, at low rpm, it changes the note of my engine. It's not so noticeable above 3000 rpm but very much so under. Feels like the engine sound is coming from a long hollow plastic tube or something... It's blowing cold, but I think something's preparing to die on me soon. Any hints of preventative maintenance welcome ! anything I could grease, lube, dismantle ? The belts are new.... Thanks !

Greg,
I am anything but an AC expert. I have though , encountered virtually any and all AC foibles and faults. I have all new servo motors, new CCU, new ballast resistor and had my dash dissected so the vents could be repaired. $3K later everything is back to working order.
Randall is the true AC Guru...hopefully he can offer help, whereas I can offer synpathy and prediction.
Good luck with this.

Thanks.. I don't see myself spending too much on this though... Even though it's a necessary evil in florida, I don't like AC much anyway - makes me sneeze ;0) If I can find the source of the noise and do some preventative maintenance, great, if not, I'd rather sweat a bit and buy myself a turbo bumper cover ! Hopefully somebody will recognize the symptom !
