Tom, I definitely felt lucky to be there. I'll pay for it in August though.
My guess is you weren't managing tire pressures then? That is critical to achieving the best grip with the tires you're on. If you look at the fast run groups, you'll typically see the drivers get back to their "pit" and get out and check tire pressures ASAP. As the day goes on, you end up releasing air to maintain something under the pressure where the tires want to slip more.

Part of the learning, part of the fun!

Yep, I often end up with cold tire pressures at the end of the day or the next morning of 22-24 psi after bleeding them during the day. If these are MPSCs, they like a lot of heat to run well/need to be hot.

Speaking of adjustments, I'm going to hijack my own thread. Are Bilstein adjustable coilovers stock on a '96 C4?

Ed, yes, I took it over to the on-site mechanic before the first session and he aired me down to 33 PSI. I kept airing down to that pressure all day (with my gas station counter pen gauge). I look forward to experimenting with that pressure in the future.

My supposition is 33psi is a high number to start with. I used to start in the high 20's, which varied a bit from tire to tire.

Adjustables would not be stock.

33 is too high to start with unless you're doing parade laps.

Welcome to the forum! There aren't many active members in Austin... You and I may be the only ones right now.

Thanks JB. They'll get here eventually if current trends hold.

No kidding. I've seen many more, much older, 911s around. All looking like Magness Walker influenced the build!
