By far the most common factory braces were the aluminum bar w/ steel risers at the ends, these were used on most of the RS,RS/CS, Cup, RSR and GT2 versions of 993

Some of the very late Cup cars had aluminum risers

I use an aftermarket version of the late Cup bar

The flat style Joe mentioned is pretty rare and doesn't show up in any of the parts books I have

W/ oe rubber shock mounts i don't see how these can help in any way

Hi

I am a bit late to this thread but have just fitted a brace to my 993. Made by Ultra Racing of Malaysia it is listed for the 964 only and is unusual in that it connects to all 4 studs on each tower.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ultra-Raci...item5d46d6bc52

I thought that because it fits a 964 that it would fit a 993, but I was wrong. The tower metalwork is identical, but the 964 top mounts sit inboard relative to the 993. For nearly every strut brace it does not matter because they mount using 2 or 3 holes and do not encircle the top mount in the way that the ultra racing one does.

So I cut the Ultra Racing one to fit as below. I have included a pic of a friends 964 brace and towers to illustrate the difference.

Initially I thought that the 4 hole per strut design was superior, but on closer examination it is possibly doomed to failure because at the rear of the tower there is a layer of extra sheet metal that prevents the strut mounting lying flat against the tower surface. So having cut mine to use the two front holes each side I am happy. I prefer the RUF Matter or Perfect power designs, but at least this strut is solid and very strong.

All the best......

Berni

+1 on getting a cheap long allen socket to install the Perfect Power brace... Don't hack it, you risk stripping the inner ones...

You guys like to spend my money....
My PerfectPower bar arrived yesterday! Hopefully to get installed this weekend!

Beth at PP said they can tell when a strutbar thread has popped up on RL or Pelican....they start getting a flood of calls!

The brace is of little value unless you race. My feeling is why add something to your car so if it suffers an impact on one side you have now involved the other side.

I just picked up a 911chips strut brace from a fellow Rennlister (by way of Craigslist). If its good enough for Quadcamm, then it must be good enough for me. Also if the only real benefit is less window creaking, I still think it is $90 well spent.

I don't really agree. Yes, you're correct, but by that logic, no one should live in California because sometimes there are earthquakes.

The certain good of a strut bar far outweighs the possible bad

It's design is very similar to factory strut braces, but the brackets are billet aluminum.

Ho'made goodness. Stainless bracket and stainless tube. Joints are 7/16" FK rod ends.
