Default Which brake pads don't squeak?

I've heard that only the OEM pads will not squeak. I have personally experienced how badly HAWKs squeak. I've heard Jurid makes the OEM pads. Which is it? Too many choices here. My car is a weekend fun car and I will do an occasional DE. But I don't want squeaky pads. Please advise. Thanks.

Pagid
RS 4-2 BLUE
A medium friction racing compound with good cold friction and fading resistance up to 500°C ( 930°F).
The 4-2 compound has an acceptable rotor wear rate and a very good modulation (adjustment). It is a Classic Rallye compound and is used also for small Single-Seater ( F3, F-Ford, Club Racing and Showroom Stock).

or

RS4-2-1 Dark Blue
This is the new "Sport" pad from Pagid. Designed for high-performance street use, it offers higher friction than a stock street pad, but excellent cold temperature stopping power. These pads come with an anti-squal shim, and are fine for driver education days, but not Club Racing.

I just went with Jurids, as they were on eBay for $60 new. Will report results. At this price, it's no biggie if I need to switch again.

Also, does it make a difference if I just pull the sensor wires and leave them off? I work on my car often enough that I'll never let anything wear down enough to trigger a warning light.

Hi Rick:

Well Sir, Jurids are the worst of the "squeakers", in my experience....

Be sure and install brand new Factory anti-squeal shims each time to minimize the propensity to do this.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Ferodo DS 2000's for street and light track use.

But aren't the OEM pads made by Jurid, but just come in a Porsche package? If so, then I'm pleased with the no-squeak OEM pads I have on my car now. How can anyone ever be sure? This is almost like the oil brand debate.

None of my pads squeak, until I take them out of the box...

The new Pagid sport 4-2-1s squeal pretty darn good. Not all of the pads in this series have the squeal plate on the back. Just for fun, they thought they would leave it off on the fronts for the Big Reds. But the rears have the squeal shim backing plate. I also installed a new set of the factory shims when I did the install, so I just don't use my brake anymore....

Rick,

When the wear sensors are disconnected at the plug, the open circuit will cause the warning light to activate. I clipped the wires close to the plugs (the ones attached to the worn out sensors... bad PO, BAD) and twisted and soldered them together on my RS America to close the curcuit. The Pagid orange pads I installed squealed like piglets... but I kinda liked it. I also really liked the pedal feeling like a rock, even after 30 minute DE run sessions.

Cheers, Mark.

Mark very interesting idea on the brake sensors...is it just 2 wires in the cluster? Can anyone think of any reason this would be a bad idea?? I too am under my car all the time and check my brakes on a regular basis....Hey Steve what do these Ferodo DS 2000's cost????

Last front pad change i just twisted and nutted to see what happened and so far ~4000 mi no ill effects. It is just 2 wires providing a continuous circuit... CPU doesn't know whether it's real or memorex...

Mark,

I got a set of the Ferodo's sitting in my garage. That is because I have the fronts, but the rears are no where to be seen in this country at the moment. You also might try Axxiom pads. They seem to be a reasonable street and AutoX pad.

And just connect the wires together about 2"s coming off the strut connection, and then use some shrink tubing on them and you are good to go. No ill effects at all.

The oem Porsche pads are made by Jurid & Textar. The backing plates are marked. Most here think the Textar are better. You can specify brand when ordering from a P dealer.

Too bad the search function is not up to speed - there's lots more in the archives about pads, sensor removal, etc..

Nice to hear that I am not the only 993 owner with squeaky brakes...

I was told to try a few 70 to 0 stops to get rid of the squeak... that seems to have mostly worked, but not completely...

OE Textar: Quiet and Good!
OE Jurid: Squeals, Dusty, Got sponge?

...Enough said. Bummer that the "Search" isn't working as this has been covered much before. But to my memory, this thread basically covers it
