Question Valve Cover Torque Specs

Been to search and Robin's site but to no avail.

Does anyone have the torque specs for valve covers on a 95?

Just finishing several items plugs, dist caps, leaky valve cover gasket. No big problems just following Robin's directions... aftermarket mufflers were a hassel but in general just the right side plugs were a B****. Thankfully the leak was on that side also.

Help!!! What to finish tonight.

Hand tighten first, then 1/2 a turn with a allen wrench or till snug(you'll know when their tight enough..or too tight..kinda like THE FORCE from STAR WARS hahah use the FORCE hehe. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT Torque them down or over tighten them, they will leak. Hope this helps

I don't know the specs on the 993 valve covers - but the 964 valve covers call for 7 ft lbs.

On one hand, I'd suspect that they would be the same but on the other, since valve adjustments don't replace them all the time, I wonder if they don't call for heavier adjustments. When I reseated my valve covers to cure some leaks, the nuts appeared to have been previously tightened by Magilla Gorilla and it was all I could do to get them loose. Over tightening does no good and only makes things worse by inducing warping.

I tried using 7 lb-ft the first time, and got leaks. Bought another gasket, and just snugged them down 'fingertip-tight' with a hex key: worked much better.

My covers leaked when torqued to 7 ft-lbs. Re-torqued them to 5 ft-lbs and no problems. I'm not sure how accurate the wrench is at those low levels, but 5 ft-lbs seemed like nothing, while 7 seemed like next to nothing. Regardless, it doesn't take much for the gasket to work. Less is more.
