Default New California SMOG test - no dyno nor sniffer

I just complete a SMOG test on my 993. The shop in San Ramon has a new beta SMOG which just plugs into the OBD II port and wireless send the data to the machine connected to the state BAR. The car is just idled for 5 mins. No rollers nor exhaust sniffer.

The one time during 993 ownership when you want a technician to look lost!

I'm hoping one day I could find a smog tech that I could convince a supercharger is the A/C compressor.

But not with a BAR EO number.

As I was traveling down the road to get my first SMOG in my 08' Tundra, I was dreading having my CAI not pass W/O an EO number. All the while I was next to a disgusting diesel delivery truck (spewing huge amounts of black smog) and there's no restrictions to them. Just like the rest of our fine states government, it doesn't work. Once again, I apologize for hating how bad the system is. I'll go back to my corner :-)

I've been half thinking of moving back to Oregon, so I looked up the smog requirements for fun. I found a bunch of articles about Oregon possibly removing the whole emissions requirements thing and cant decide if this is a good idea overall or not. California does have a wacky system. I see so many disgusting cars with those red placards that give people upwards of a year to fix their spewing cars. I dont really get how the smog requirements are supposed to work anywhere.

It's Discount SMOG in the 76 gas station at the corner of San Ramon Blvd and Crow Canyon, San Ramon.

odd, sice AB2289 requires a sniffer and dyno on vehicles pre 2000...I have not heard that on 99 and earlier vehicles that the sniff and OBD tests were all that was needed.

CARB website doesnt clarify well either.

Most states have no sniffer on OBD2 vehicles, no CEL, no problem. Pre OBD2 is a visual only in most states as well. Diesel vehicles have no emissions in nearly every state...

Any idea how the new test will work for OBDI and pre 1996 cars?
