Default RS battery comparison

I don't know if posted before, but here is a comparison between 993 70 ampere-hr battery and 993 RS 36 ampere-hour battery.

RS battery WITHOUT electrolyte = 19.2 pounds
993 normal battery WITH electrolyte = 40.6 pounds

Looks like around a 20 pound weight saving with an RS battery.

Don't drive around with A/C on, headlights on, fog lights on, rear window defogger on, stereo on, etc. or you will be left for dead with an RS battery - particularly if you have an RS fan drive as well.

Interestingly enough you tend to find that many RS come equipped with option M197 = Uprated battery.

This was a default option if you selected a/c (573).

The build sheet on my own RS CS comes with 197.

What kind of battery is an RS Battery, Gel? Or does it take Electrolyte?

If so, it won't be 20 lb savings.

It is a lead acid battery.

Last time I filled one, I didn't use the entire 850 cc in the acid pack. Let's say I did, then correcting for specific gravity 850 cc X 1.275 = 1083 grams = 2.38 pounds.

19.2 + 2.38 = 21.6 pounds for RS battery, if it takes 850 cc of acid.

So 40.6 - 21.6 = 19 pounds saving.

So you are right, it is not 20 pounds, but I did use the qualifier "around" and did site with and without electrolyte in my posted weights.

I plan on using both depending on weather. I suspect your RS has the 8 mm threaded hole under the battery for the extra bracket required to restrain the RS battery.

I am deleting everything except for the headlights, but I do want to run a electric pump for the power steering. Not sure if the RS pulley is a good idea even if keep the bigger battery.

Not sure what all the fuss is about RS battery...... So its smaller and lighter. I've got a heavy Bosch one in mine.
