My 911 is no more
Longtime lurker here. Rarely posted but gleaned much good info from you guys. Sorry to report that my heart and soul did not survive last week's ice storm here in SE PA. A healthy tree snapped mid-trunk and landed squarely on top of my beloved '95 C4. It had 155,000 miles and the insurance company totaled it once they got past $16,000 on the write-up of necessary repairs. I am torn to shreds over this. It was the best car I have ever owned or will ever own. I posted pics of the poor thing; I am not sure of they convey the extent of the damage. It is heart-wrenching to look at them.
I have figured out what is happening with these cars. It seems that most or all 993s that are for sale are expensive garage queens to some extent. The high mileage beauties that see service every day, and might conceivably be affordable to shmoes like me, are simply not for sale. You guys have decided to die in them. I can't say I blame you. They are magnificent automobiles. There is quite simply nothing in the world like a 993. I will miss mine terribly. For now.... depression.

Man, total bummer. Really feel for you man. On the plus side, there looks to be a lot of salvageable parts on that one... Tranny, engine, suspension bits. Keep us updated on its fate, and perhaps parts of your car can live on keeping others chugging on down the road!

Little tip of advice that may help if you decide to receive the cash value from the insurance company..... give them all your latest (up to 2 years or maybe 3) receipts of any work done to the car. new tires, brakes, engine work, etc. they will value the car higher and pay you more. happened with me with my 1990 3 series. they bumped up the value by $2000 because of engine work (minor stuff), tires, brakes and i think i submitted some suspension stuff that was a few years old.
sorry about the loss.

Unless there's damage we can't see, I'm not sure why you can't collect a check from the insurance company, keep the car, and have it repaired. It looks like it needs a roof and front and rear glass. Not as easy as replacing a fender, but also not a biggie for a competent body shop. It's not like you were in a collision, the unibody is bent, and it needs complete suspension disassembly, engine removal, and straightening on a Celette.
