Default Who remembers when 911s were this bad?

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21392/lot/111/

Only thing "missing" is that it's not a soft torsion bar, 14" wheel Comfort Group model.

(And there are oil leaks from a supposedly rebuilt engine!)

That is not a car/motor I would want to spend that kind of money on. I wonder if people have forgotten or not done due diligence for the 74-77 models?

I think it's just an ultra low mile air cooled that gets plugged into a vertical collection. Silver and coupe probably sealed the deal.

I just realized on second look that it those ARE 14" wheels, so it is a Comfort Group car. This is possibly the worst of the worst of the worst 911s ever built. If only it were a Sportomatic. Were they three speeds at this point?

Don't believe me? http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

Actually, we can't on this car. But if the new owner sees this and just has to be 100% correct to compete in the concours, I've still got some thermal reactors and other assorted missing smog equipment (air pump + EGR valve/manifold). Doubt a car like this will ever get warmed up enough for it to matter for engine (lack of) longevity.

Seriously, thought this was common knowledge

Amazing

I remember back in the early-mid 90s, a buddy from 8th-9th grade era, that left the school we attended together the previous year - came over one day with same car in yellow. It was a good car, the real deal. I'm not sure what top dollar was then, but I believe his mother paid in the mid 20s at the time, maybe low 30s. The funny thing was, that he desperately wanted an IROC Z, and he begged her till she bought him this white terd for 9,500... pretty funny looking back on it. Dude had a screw loose to begin with

It will be interesting to see what Prescott Kelly writes about it in the 356 Registry magazine. It is amazing how many turds sell at these auctions, lots of bondo, incorrect parts, etc.

Being discussed in the 911 forum, I personally inspected the car, shocked...

5 short years from now we'll all be saying, " I remember when I could buy a NB low mileage coupe for 5 figures."

JMHO, but I don't lump the '74 cars in with the rest since those had no smog equipment of any kind and were pretty darned reliable (airboxes aside) compared to their successors.

I did enough '74s in AZ for me to personally throw them into my mix. By the time I got down there and opened up, there weren't any thermal reactors to be found on any of the cars.........yet a handful were on a crankcase replacement due to improper case inserts the first go-round.

2.4s subjected to stupid hot weather use sans oil cooler would also show up with a pulled stud or two on occasion. Ever get those in that nice OR climate?
