I know this response is late but I just became a member. Being an ex-welder those welds are terrible. There's undercutting and the weld bead is concave which means there wasn't enough filler metal used. Those welds are susceptible to cracking. I have no affiliation with Rennline but if you want to see some great welds check out their 993TT stainless steel engine carrier on their web site.

Can you supply a link or pics of this "Rennline" SS 993TT engine carrier? I could not find anything.
Is this the one you're refering to? It's for a 930. They list 964T/993TT with an asterisk. The asterisk only addresses the 964. Not sure if it'll work on a 993TT.

Yes, that's the one and it works on the 993TT. I believe the asterisk is to make you aware that on the 964 you need to use aftermarket motor mounts where as on the 993TT you don't. The stock carrier is beefy enough but is noticeably heavier than the stainless steel. Bottom line if weight is no issue then the stock carrier is just fine. If you can compare a NA 993 carrier to a stock TT's you can see why they need to be reinforced.

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but how does the rennline stainless carrier fit? Looks like sits higher than stock, and its missing the bottom half that mounts to the heater tube.

Turbo 993 uses that same style carrieras the older 911s thu 89, it's very different from the n/a carrier, the n/a version hangs the rear of the engine ~1" lower than the older carrier type

you could use the older style on a 993 if you want the engine higher but why would you

On the other hand when a 993 or 964 engine is mounted in an older style 911 chassis you would want the older carrier and console

This is how it attaches so not sure what you mean on the heater tube, as I don't recall that attaching to the carrier. The 4 bolts on the bottom attach to the case and there are the two that hold the mounts so...

Let me know if you need more details. The Rennline carrier addresses the weak points in the original design as most separate at the engine mount weld location. There is no room on the lower part for any reinforcement as it would interfere with the A/C bracket and the crank pulley.

Everything attaches as it would on a stock carrier...not sure that I understand the concern.

Thanks Bill. I have a C4S so I was unsure. Prefer stainless but welding the reinforcement to the existing carrier or just buying the Rennline tubular one are my choices.

Thanks. I was referring to the RSR stainless carrier that is in OverBoosted's post. Rennline's description says 964/993 Turbo, which my C4S shares alot of parts with.
