I can tell you don't have kids lol. I have several, they are all different and each has what seems to be an inherent ability / coordination to drive a clutch or not, some never get it and one of mine wanted NOTHING to do with driving a stick (you learn to chose your battles).

If you are blessed enough to have children and get through the initial teenage years (they're LOTS of fun, let me tell you) and then want them to learn how to drive a manual in your TT, have at it........

That's just me , I respect everyone's decision ..
Good luck in finding a rental car with a stick
Even if you do they won't be covered by insurance.

I know the right place to find a rental with the manual transmission, as for the insurance it shouldn't be no problem

Learned on an Opel with my Dad. My son learned clutch and shifting on a Ducati-- so when I got my Boxster Spyder, he had it down in 30 minutes.

But I don't think I'm going to allow him in the driver's seat of my 993 until he's saved enough $ to buy it.

There was a comment above about needing a several years of driving experience before entry into a Porsche. Uh yeah. I believe the first weekend I had 911 #1, a couple of weeks past my 18th, we were off running a 12 hour road rally. Which in those days was basically street racing.

Guess it all depends on the kid, and what his/her goals are. Carting was mentioned above. Got a 21 y.o. son of my cousin who's two steps below Indycar. At 16 he'd not yet raced a full sized formula car, but I'll bet if I had put him in the Radical he would have trounced me by about lap 2.
...forgot about the 996, why the hell not - great car to have fun with and throw away.

Maybe the the new irocZ of the gen., along with the G35 coupe of course.

My daughter is only 12, but talks about getting her drivers license. All her nieces have been excited to get theirs and shared their excitement with her. I plan on letter her drive the 993. When she does, I do plan on being in the passenger seat. I'm guessing she won't get as much a thrill out of it as I will.

as long as you don't mind repairing a few dings and potentially shortening life of your clutch.

I personally would choose a different car for somebody to learn to drive. Once the basics are learned then sure...

No to the idea of teenagers learning to drive a stick on a Porsche.

I learned to drive a stick when my dad tossed the keys to me of one of his delivery trucks in Manhattan and said you are filling in for a vacationing driver. All of 17 years old and learning to drive a manual tranny on a 16 foot box truck in Manhattan. Other than knocking off a few side mirrors on narrow side streets, I did pretty well.

I learned on an F350 stake body as a teenager. Maybe it's why I drive my 993 the way I do

My brother in-law let my 18yr old drive his 6 sp M coupe. Of course my son now thinks he should be able to drive the TT. Uhhh sorry. Even though I am sure he could do better in it than the wife, no ones driving it. :-)
