On a '95, the car will give you the code without a reader. Hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor with the car off. While keeping it there, turn the key to position 2 and then release the pedal. The cel will flash the code at you.
My April build '95 with immobilizer won't do that, just tried.
Maybe those earlier cars W/O immob?
