Default Need some recommendations

I'm hoping someone can give some recommendations on my plight.

Unfortunately I need to sell my car.

It's a cabriolet and I live in California so I think now is prime season
to be selling it.

I'm thinking about putting it on consignment at Stanford European in
Palo Alto. Has anyone had any positive/negative experiences with consigning cars there?

My car is a tiptronic which I think will definitely hurt the resale
value/ease of selling it given that it's already 8 years old. I would
think that 8 year old cars are going to be more attractive to
porschophiles rather than tiptronic drivers.

I don't mind trying to sell myself privately for a while but I also don't
want to miss consigning it during the summer months if a private sale won't get too many bites.

Anybody have any recommendations/pros-cons to which is the better way given the type of car I have?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that Alex. So why can't you try to sell it privately and put it on consignment at the same time?

I'd place ads in all the usual places. Also, you may want to try to spread the word at some PCA events ( autocrosses, etc ).

Don't know about Stanford European. I do go into California Motorsport in Sunnyvale on El Camino quite a bit. 90% Porsches. All clean cars (usually 30-40 of all years and models). They seem to turn over their inventory quite a bit. I have no first hand knowledge of selling or buying there however. Can't hurt to let them look at your car.

Sorry about the sale. Hope you get a good price for it.....

Thanks for the ideas. The thing I like about Stanford European
(well from a sellers point of view) is that they seem to have somewhat
higher prices. I never thought about consigning and attempting to
sell myself at the same time, I'll have to look into that one.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll sure miss this car

I have sold a 95 M3 through Stanford and my buddy is friends with the owner. You cannot put on consignment and try to sell yourself at the same time. Prohibited by the contract.

When I sold my car, I told them how much I wanted and let them keep whatever they got on top. It turned out to be a good deal for me and they sold the car within one month. I did not have to hassle with folks coming over for a joy ride and wasting my time. You pay something for the service. The question is whether the money is worth your time and aggravation.

You might want to try to sell privately for a couple of weeks through some ads and if that doesn't yield quick results, then go the consignment route.

Feel free to send me a private message with your phone and I would be happy to talk with you.

Two thoughts on the Tiptronic. First, don't assume it is so undesirable -- people who want one really want one.

Second, do consider advertising your car nationally, as based on two long national searchs in the last three years for Tip cars (a 964 then my current 993) Tip cars are more popular in the Midwest than the West Coast. In fact, in the case of the 964, without fail the Tip cars always carried a premium over the manual trans cars, and the demand exceeded supply. I sold mine very quickly.

Good luck, and sad to hear you need to sell. Come back to Porsche ownership soon!
