sunroof will not open
Help.. I tried to open my sunroof and only the driver side tries to open(actually releases and starts to go under the roof.). I removed the two covers under the headliner to acess the motor . But i can not get the right side of the sunroof to release (can not release to go under the roof) to push the sunroof back. Is there a way to get the right side to release so the sunroof can be pushed back so I can remove the sunroof cover to see if the cable broke.? Thanks in advance. .. Al
Excuse me for the long post.

I've got exactly the same problem as you. On my car, it looks the headliner needs to be loosened, and I suspect that yours is the same.
This article is aimed at an older car, but the principle should be the same: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...oof_repair.htm - obviously your mileage may vary.
The 964 cables, 964-564-143-00 and 964-564-144-00 for left and right sides respectively, were used on the 993 up to and including 1996, so that's probably what you'll be needing. I seem to recall paying around $70 for the pair, but I can't remember exactly.
Hope this helps...
edit: this thread might be helpful, too.

Thanks for the reply Eion.. I finally was able to pull down and unclip the sunroof liner and slide it back out of the way. After I removed the four bracket bolts holding the sunroof in place. I was able to lift the sunroof completely out. I did not break a cable ... The end of the cable worked itself loose and out of the circular clamp which holds it to the sunroof sliding bracket. I reinstalled the cable and put a little bit of epoxy and re-crimped the circular clamp which holds the cable in place. Tomorrow I will re-install the sunroof . It should work fine. Before you order the cable , check to see . Maybe it just came loose like mine.

Al Z, I had the same problem with the cable pulling out of the circular clamp. Unless you have access to a commercial press, I wouldn't recommend trying to re-crimp it yourself. I did this and it pulled free in about four times of opening and closing the roof. I installed a new cable which cost me only $40 at the local dealer. I know that you can get them cheaper if you shop around. I figure that each time I remove and replace the sunroof, the more chance of a scratch or a dent.

Thanks for the reply TomF. I was able to use a heavy duty crimp tool. So hopefully it will hold . I tried opening and closing the sunroof several times, so far so good. Now that I know how the roof comes off it should only take 15 to 20 min to replace the cable if it happens again. I will probably replace the cable anyway once I store the car for the winter.
