Windshield Still Creaking

Windshield Still Creaking
Last week my OPC fitted a new windshield and the "rope" fix. I also fitted a strut brace. The creak was gone for a couple of days and now it's back with a vengence.
The strut brace appears to be tight and was installed as detailed several times on this board.
I then got a Teflon based spray towards the end of last week which seemed to cure it. However, the creak was back last night. I applied some more of the Teflon spray, but I don't think it will keep it away for too long.
The Teflon spray doesn't appear to be viscous enough and is most likely evaporating - it's very similar to WD-40 in look and smell. I have ordered some Pedro's Ice Wax and will give that a try later this week.

Hi Ken,
It looks like it's the hot weather as mine is playing up as well (see your other post). Out of interest, which strut brace did you go with and was it expensive (say more than £150)? I'm thinking of treating myself to one. Did it make a lot of difference?
Thanks,
David

I went for the standard one Gert sells. See www.carnewal.com.
The car feels a lot better on corners and there appears to be less flexing. I think you should get one for well under £150. Only takes about 30 mins to install.

See my Mobil1 post... The dealer (creatively, I guess) put Mobil1 on my seals about 3 weeks ago and the windshield is still noise free. It had been absolutely horrible prior. I wouldn't have thought about using it, and the jury is still out as to whether it can cause paint or metal damage, but being stuck with it I would have to say that it seems to have done the trick.

Another lube that people have discussed is Pedros Ice Wax. It is a bicycle chain lube. If you give it a shot, be sure to buy it in an aerosol can. Most times it is in a squeeze container instead and this can be very difficult to use.

when i first purchased my car, i used a silicon spray as there was no Pedro's available where i was. it would start to loose its effectiveness in a matter of days, and immediately after a carwash. my first application of Pedro's got rid of 90% of the squeaks for about 2 weeks. i reapplied the ice wax and the squeaks were gone for months. In January i was starting to get the odd squeak, so put on two applications of Pedro's about 3 days apart. i used LOTS, making a mess!! (i had the non-aerosol container this time). the windshield has been squeak free for about 6 months now. good luck, max

outside rubber seal; between seal lip and windshield frame (body). first, wash the car so that there is no grit around the winshield. then i use a wooden chopstick or tongue depressor to lift the lip of the seal. i insert the straw from the aerosol can behind the lifting device, and work my way around the windshield.

Did the Pedro's Ice Wax DIY this weekend. Outside and inside of seal, with plenty of mess.
First drive in the car - no sqeaks, except from the rear screen!
Applied Pedro's to the rear screen - no squeaks, except from the side windows!
However, the front and rear are silent. Mine was bad. I live in Atlanta and use the car daily with 90plus heat, to play expansion games on the seals.
Also did the 3rd brake light DIY from Robin's site. Had 2 lights out. When I got the cluster out, actually all the bulbs were all functioning - tested with a spare battery - but glowed dimmly. I actually bought 4 spare bulbs - approx. $10 from dealer - as a precaution and then re-soldered all 4 in place. Have a couple of darkening bulbs, still in place, so will probably need to repeat the DIY again. My recommendation is to buy a good stash of bulbs just in case. Good DIY. Less than 2 hours to complete. $15 for soldering iron, $10 for bulbs.

tmario,
This is just one of the common noisees that Porsche owners deal with. You can get back to previous posts using the search function in the top right corner of the web page.
There are different solutions for fixing it and the more knowledgeable dealers have a solution that can be used (rope...), but I'm not convinced it is a 100% solution.
I have used the Pedro's Ice Wax (make sure it is in the aerosol form) and after the second application the sqeek is gone.
FYI - try to focus on the sweet tunes coming from behind you and not the rattles - it took me a while to be successful in this, but it has made the drives more fun. And remember this is a 5-8 year old sports car and not a luxery car.
Good Luck
