Anyone rent-a-trailer for their 993 for self hauling?
I think I'm going to haul my 993 up to my dads shop for the winter to do the maintenance on both of our Porsches. Hes got a great shop and tools and I have time off, so why not.
I'm trying to research rental trailers, looking at u-haul and penske, preferably a covered trailer. Has anyone hauled their own car, not through a service? Are there other company options besides those listed?
TIA

Was it a flat bed or a covered trailer? I'm thinking my California car cover, with another prophylactic cheap cover over that would be fine?

Not sure you want to put a cover on it when using an open trailer. I would be concerned the cover moving around would harm the finish. There might be additional feedback from the folks on the racing forum.

Don't use any car covers on a car hauled on an open trailer. With the wind, it'll beat the paint to death! Assuming you have a sufficient tow vehicle with 2 inch receiver, suggest you ask around nearby various Porsche race shops if they know anyone with an enclosed trailer you might rent/borrow. Anything 18-20 ft. long would do nicely.

If not, the shop would probably gladly do a hot shot for you.

And if your car is lowered, you don't want to mess around with a u-haul or rental trailer.
Open car trailers are much easier to pull as they aren't as impacted by wind (and x-wind) resistance.
Your car on an open trailer isn't really at that much risk of damage unless you are traveling on dirt/gravel roads or on a salted/sanded road. I regularly tow mine thousands of miles on an open trailer without damage. But they do get dirty riding back there if it rains.

I ripped my front bumper off on a uhaul trailer in September. They have a lip on the front of the trailer that grabbed the underside of my bumper cover and took it right off the car. It is impossible to use the uhaul front tire securing straps with a lowered 993 and not do damage.

Much like Kein_Ersatz does, only I pull my setup with a Cayenne...
