Question Cabriolet rear window problem.

I washed my car and noticed that the rear window seal from the outside had come apart for about 5 inches on the passenger side on the down side of the window. There is black rubberized membrane that has come apart exposing what appears to be a copper braided reinforcing wire or zipper.

My question is what sort of goop do I use to reseal this and is there a special procedure required?

Pictures available on request.

Thanks

Levino

Holy moly...what a small world...I logged in this morning to ask the same question ... 1995, but same problem, lower corner passenger side, about 1" for me. If you have the pics, LAT, I suggest posting them as it always helps the creative ones on the board thing of cool solutions.

I'm personally thinking of something like clear gasket sealant, or basically any clear goupy sort of automotive sealant that hardens.

Thoughts?

Careful what you use - that wire is made to be heated to melt the sealing material for the top. Could make the top replacement "exciting" if you use a flammable material.

You need to reseal the window. According to the workshop manual you need a pressure frame to reseal it (else the window will probably just pop out). The copper wire is a heating element wich must be connected 2 minutes to the battery. If you make a mistake you melt the window. Typically a job which requires some experience I think (there are a lot of warnings in the manual about this subject).

Guess I haven't looked closely enough to see the copper wire yet.
