70,000 miles, if well serviced and well driven, is nothing. The price is very good. If there are good records, the car passes a PPI, and if you love the way it looks and drives, grab it.

I've got a 97 C4S with 70K miles with full records and I would never let it go for anywhere near $36K. If it checks out, I'd jump at it. If you don't and it is black, send me an email as I may be interested in another.

Addison,

You are going to have TWO 4Ss?

$37k seems awefully low for this car. It's hard enough to find a regular '97 993 in this price range. let alone a 4S. Here in SoCal, the lowest price I've seen for a 4S during the last two months was $47k in San Diego.

But, this owner may just want to get rid of it. Like you mentioned, if everything does check out okay then that's a heck of a deal.

Rich

PS: I still plan on coming out to see your car one of these days. I have an office in the city of Bell, which isn't too far from you, I think. Perhaps we can get some lunch.

I'm back in the game for that price....
As addison mentioned if everything checks out and it even low on options I would snag it in a second.

Hey Rich, for that price, I'll make room in the garage! Send me an email when you are in the area and we can hook up. I'd love to see your C4S as well.

Hey Jason, welcome back soon! You've got to see the car with the new shoes. HRE 540R's full polish!

I just picked up a '89 Turbo Cab that a friend and I went in on. It is a pristine car and we both have been looking for a couple years for a super clean '89 turbo. I still love and miss the c4s though ....would love to see it with the new rims.

agent 325, if you are not going to buy it, please e-mail me!

agent325, what's the scoop on the car? If you are passing, what are the details, color, options, etc. Thanks.

So, I drive from L.A. to hemit ( about an 80 mile drive) to see the car, I get there and its absolutly beautiful, everything that I expected. I even took cash with me to put a deposit on it.

So we go for a drive, as we are driving, the owner tells me, "O by the way, when I bought the car, I had the front fenders painted, there were some dents and what not when I bought it, so I decided to paint it". I tell myself, no big deal, your gonna get the car for a killer price, replaced front fenders arent gonna kill you..........We drive for another 5 mins I look around the interior, it looks flawless.....at this point i'm getting really excited and ready to head back so we can arrange a PPI and close the deal.........then I ask him "what was the cause of the minor dents on the fender" his reply, " a minor accident"...."an accident?" I reply........then it hits me "is the car salvaged?".........and I get the answer I didnt want to hear "YES"..........I was soooo pissed to drive a freaking hour and a half each way to find out it was a Salvage.d So I decided to pass on.

So if any one is interested in a Salavaged C4s for around $35K, let me know. The car seemed pretty clean, but I wont get into cars with stories!

Hey Agent,

Sorry about your trip for nothing. On another note, you might want to consider checking the VIN # on CARFAX before you drive to see a car. I believe you will find out if the car was salvaged before you make the journey.

B-Line--

Re Carfax and discovering salvage titles, my wife had a daily driver w/ salvage title she picked up cheap before I met her -- about 50% of "normal" market price seems to be one standard I've heard and that's about what she paid. The car worked fine for its intended purpose. When I was looking at buying my 964 Cab, I had heard of Carfax but wasn't sure how accurate it was. So as a test, I ran my wife's car through Carfax. Lo and behold it yielded a completely clean bill of health! Of course I contacted Carfax and they gave me my money back for the Carfax fee, but it certainly does make one wonder if there is any way to verify history unless you buy the car new. BTW the salvage title was in AZ and had been recorded for about five years so I have no idea why it didn't come up in the records search.

Just so it doesn't appear I'm bashing Carfax, I would never buy a car without Carfaxing it -- I have since used it several times and it did show very useful info each time -- but its amazing that something so "routine" as a clearly recorded salvage title could be missed.

Hey HD,

Wow, great story. I guess cars can easily slip through the cracks, especially if the owner knows how to manipulate the system.
Anyway, it's just another reason to be "buyer beware" careful.
I would never rely on Carfax alone but as you said, I don't think it could hurt.
