Well I have to say that knowing the exact rev drop from 1st to second changes my driving today for the better. I really get those revs up in first even around town and I have a much better experience. Who care if people stare at you

What gearing do you have and how does it help you? Love to hear around town driving style vs a stock box.

I would love to hear your experiences and shift points around town!

Nothing. I get around on the street just fine with it.

Well 6th is nearly useless unless you are doing 75mph for a start. A regear brings the ratios closer together so the drops between gears aren't putting you out of the power zone. 2nd is way too long. A lower 2nd puts you in a higher engine speed range at a lower road speed. I find that a burst through the gears is much more pleasing now with the 2.4 2nd and so on. My only complaint has been that moving 5th to 6th puts my engine speed too high for high cruising. A ratio between the stock 5th and 6th would be nice. That adds another $1000 to the bill.

I think I would be happy with 5th in the 6th spot. It is rare to cruise at 80+ (only time I use 6th) for more than a few seconds where I am. I always changed the gearing on my motorcycles for low end so that is the way I would like my 993.

Do u know about how much it costs currently to do a re-gear? Say if I had an early 95 box and did the 5th to 6th swap? How many hours should it take?

I bought the box so didn't get to chose gearing however dropping the rpms a few hundred at cruising speeds would be nice. Either the 0.857 or 0.821 ratio would be better for my needs.

I've heard around $9000 and add $1000 in freight and exchange for us Canadians. You'll most likely have to ship it south to find somebody with the tools and knowledge.

So I agree that 2nd is too tall, but we must be driving our cars differently. On the highway when I am at 65 to 70 the car is in 6th and the engine is doing 2200 to 2500 in a very comfortable manner. I will downshift to accelerate or climb a hill, but why cruise on flat ground at over 3000 rpm? It seems like just burning gas and adding wear to the engine.

From the prices I have seen $9k-$10k is optimistic. I was pricing a regear to RS spec.

That is lugging the engine IMHO

Lugging a 3.6 liter engine with 280+ horsepower by going a steady 65mph at 2200 rpm in a small car? I sure wouldn't think so. Not unless you mash the gas. Just curious, in a tiptronic car what rpm are you running at 65mph? What has the factory programmed into it for that speed?

Do you remember the shift lights on the Carrera 3.2's, they would tell you to shift at 2300rpm, it was ridiculous.
