Default Best motor oil for 993?

What is the latest thinking on the best motor oil and viscosity for the 993 for street use? I have been using Valvoline Durablend 20/40 for years, but maybe that is old school... My mechanic always said it was easier on the seals than M1... Any thoughts?

wow undertray and oil thread? Why not try for the trifecta and ask if valve guides need to be replaced before 100k.

Hi Greg- welcome - your question has been asked before and there is a huge amount of science and opinion about oils on Rennlist. Do a simple search and you will see various points of view. If after reading a bit you have specific questions - post those and you'll probably get some detailed answers. Good luck with your research.

I did. The last thread I saw was about 3 years old, with a lot of joking around in it. I guess bottom line it was Mobil 1 15/50

I suggested there be a sticky at the top for just such ongoing thoughts on the subject.

Greg

Need to know if you use dip stick or oil gauge before a clear answer is possible.

Sorry for interrupting the thread with an actual answer. I'll skip all the jabs, etc. and say that there is no "right" answer to which oil is "best". Personally...I've been using Mobil 1 15/50 for over 14 years with no issues. There are probably 20 different oils that would work just fine in your car. It's a matter of personal preference as to which you decide to use. Until I see a convincing argument to change...I'll continue using Mobil 1.
