Default KW V1 coilover as an alternative to PSS10

Since PSS9s are no longer offered, why are KW V1s not a more popular alternative? Is the KW support lacking in the US?

Retail for KW V1s are $2400 vs $2700 for PSS10s. I think a price of $2100-$2200 on a group buy would be close to the old PSS9 price to make it an attractive option for folks who want a coilover buy not pay PSS10 price level.

Thoughts?

MikeJ recently installed a set of V3s on his TT, not entirely happy so far:

Interesting and thanks for the thread. I missed it.

So I have to somehow mod the dust shield to save a few hundred dollars? The V3 is a better design than the PSS10s because you can adjust both dampening and rebound rates. I see 9M using V3 all the time in their custom builds. Wonder if Colin have seen this dust shield issue and how they "mod" it to prevent this from happening. Other suspension options with V3 capabilities are more expensive.

Not to take anything from MikeJ, who is one of the most knowledgeable RL member on 993s, but it does not surprise me if a company like KW would be hesitant to have a "make a DIY installer happy at any cost" policy. It seems to be a fairly standard vendor practice in our hobby though..

As an example: I tried to source a proprietary socket head to disassemble OZ racing wheels to refinish and rebuild. Tire Rack, the sole distributor for OZ wheels in the US, would not help citing liability reasons although it is available in Europe. Dan Jacobs offered to loan me theirs because Tirerack was an *** even with offering to send them the wheels to disassemble. Discount Tire will get all of my business going forward.

I am refinishing and rebuilding my BBS E88 wheels without trouble. In fact, BBS USA is very supportive with wheel rebuilds and have built a nice business around it. I hope to share pictures of the result with everyone next spring when its driving season again..

I love both my KWv3 and PSS9 setups.

Couldn't be happier with the PSS10's. A simple f/4 r/5 setup is great for road use. Good luck!

Default KW v1

I have had these on for a couple of months. A little firm on rougher roads but my tech lowered them the maximum amount. Thinking of asking him to back them off a turn or two and see if it makes any difference. Other than that a great set of coilovers. I had to wait for them to be shipped from Germany but that was not a big deal.

I have a set of v1s on my 964 if you want to go for a drive to try them out PM me before the snow/salt comes. The back end will be a bit harsher than your 993 but you still would get an idea of what they feel like. I live up in Simsburry

Curious, where are you finding them for sale?

Thanks!

There are vendors on eBay who claim to have 10 sets in inventory. We can organize a group buy on this forum if there is enough interest..
