Default 1998 993 Engine rebuild

Hey folks - Does anyone know how much an engine rebuild costs on an 993 Carrera 2? Looking for ball park figures on Top end engine rebuild and for entire full blown rebuild.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

5-7k top end from what I read
Full rebuild would probably have too many variables in terms of replacement parts - 10-20k???
Are you sure you need a rebuild?

I got an estimate of 25K for a complete overhaul of my old 964 engine from Bob Grigsby of RMG (One of the most reputable guys in the SF Bay Area and comes with Steve Weiners blessing). I have to think that a 993 engine will be similar. Like NYC993 said, are you sure you need an overhaul?

Or you could buy another car. I had no idea that was the going rate for a full rebuild. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the pricing just to understand where the money would be going.

Just FYI, in 2009 I only paid $5,500 for a complete engine rebuild for my C2 in Taiwan,
covering all parts and labor, by a reputable outside plant. New parts include:

Top end rebuild pack OEM
Six piston rings OEM
Four aluminum cam covers after-market
Four cam cover gaskets OEM
Two timing chain tensioners OEM
Two engine mounts OEM
One tranny mount after-market

Rebuild took about a week. Engine has been running real well since then.

Anybody want to send your engine to Taiwan for rebuild?
I would be glad to help.

Rebuilt with OEM valve guides? Labor in Taiwan is cheap compared to the US for this kind of work.

I would be interested in the company details as back pocket information. I live in Japan so no so far to ship if needed or anybody else in Japan.
Cheers

About six years ago I had a top and bottom end rebuilt on a 3.2 Carreras engine by Buckley racing in Ft. Worth. Re-using the pistons and cylinders it started at $6,000, but ended up at $10,000 when I was done. Once you get in there you see all kinds of additional items that should be taken care of. So perhaps a third more to account for inflation and a more complex engine.

90% is probably labor.

Im in the middle of rebuilding mine. So far roughly it breaks down something like this
Machining $2k
Parts including all new seals, piston rings, bearings etc $2000
Disposables such as lube, gasket sealer etc $150
Additional tools for timing a 993 $1000

When I am finished I will post a list with costs and part numbers for future reference.
