I just picked up my new car and notice a humming sound that is coming from either the engine area or under the car. It can only be heard at idle or is drowned out by the engine and could best be described as the sound an electric fuel pump makes when it is running continuously. Yes, the car is full of gas. The sound is unrelated to engine or vehicle speed. Is it normal? TIA.

Most likely the heater fan = normal. I guess could be the fuel pump also (also normal, doh...) but I'd first check the fan, at least I can't hear the fuel pump on my car.
Check if the sound comes from the fan (that black, fan looking thing on left side of the engine bay).
Check with the temperature control on heat (should hear) and then all the way to coldest (should not hear).
I'm sure you can hear whether it's the fan or not, if not, let us know.

I checked it a little further and the sound is coming from either the gas tank or the right shock tower. And it does sound like the fuel pump is just running continuously. Where is the fuel pump - inside the gas tank?
