Inside the shaft the rotor attaches to, one side has a felt plug, the other does not. I cant find a parts breakout for the distributor, so not sure where to get one, what it is called or what the part number is.

So, is it "important"?
AFAIK there is no parts detail for the distributor, certainly not on PET/Katalog. Maybe one of the RL gurus has access to Top Secret Porsche or Bosch manuals with more detail?
I'd find a piece of felt from something else (eg liner for winter boots or old hat) and punch out a piece using short piece of metal tubing of same or slightly larger inside diameter. The felt on my secondary is about 1/4" thick, the primary about 1/8".
Is it important? FWIW, here's a thread that discusses the purpose of the felt pads:
BTW I just did the belt replacement last night and it was fairly easy. If you are doing this, doesn't hurt to order 2 of the copper pins to replace the one you drill out on the main shaft. I did, as I was concerned I might mess up on re-insertion. Sure enough, the first pin went rolling under the workbench into a dark, inaccessible place beyond the reach of my arms, inhabited by spiders standing guard over non-ferrous parts that cannot be retrieved with a telescoping magnet.
OT, how's the reassembly on the rest coming along? Any luck sorting out all the seals and gaskets?

Nice description Brian...Who hasn't BTDT. I had to laugh out loud over the spiders standing guard...
Spiders.....I have a truce with them. I dont go near them and they dont go near me. Thankfully I live in New England where nasty spiders are rare.
Thanks for the info, I have some felt somewhere.
Brian, I had Exotech replace the belt since they had my heads anyway. I usually order extras of parts but for the engine rebuild I didnt. I should have. So far I have torn #8 bearing oring, resulted in a day delay. This morning I noticed I am short a case through bolt washer, will have one tuesday. That is just this week. Im ordering doubles of all from now on and offering whats left on rl.
