Default First Porsche - 1997 Targa

Just picked up a 1997 Targa, Arctic Silver with black interior. 121,000 miles, very well maintained, recent top-end rebuild and passed a PPI with flying colors.

I'd been looking for about 6 months for the right 993 and, not having strong feelings about the Targa, pulled the trigger on this one!

Thanks everyone! It is my first Porsche. I got to drive a 996 C4S for about a month last year. Loved the car, but wanted something a little less "modern", so locked on the the 993s.

Also, the suspension has Bilstein shocks, front and rear. I know the PO desired to keep things as stock as possible. Does it seem to be riding higher than stock?

It's hard to say if it's higher than OEM from the pictures -- but these cars came from the factory pretty high in the US (aka as "SUV" ride height). Most folks lower their car. RoW is a typical starting point (rest of the world), and some go lower than that.

I wouldn't worry about all that just yet. Just drive the car.

Welcome to the 993 club and the targa club! There's a few fanatic targa guys that have gotten really into caring and servicing these limited glass-top targas. Just send us a PM if you've got any questions.

Regarding the suspension - it's hard to confirm if that's stock or not from those pics but it looks as though it is. You'll find an aftermarket suspension and strut tower brace not only makes your car more fun to drive, but it also help tighten up the little bit if flex that these targas exhibit.

Good luck and congrats!

Welcome! See you on our beautiful back roads. May I recommend Wentworth Springs Road? How about Mosquito Ridge? Let's drive!

Just recently purchased my 993 as well, though a Cab. Started the slippery slope too. Congratulations and welcome.

Saw this car on Autotrader and thought it looked like a very well maintained car for the mileage. Yes, it looks like it's still riding at U.S. spec ride height. If you want it set down to euro spec height, you will need to swap the springs out. Porsche has the factory parts available .. M030 sport springs (stiffer) OR M033 springs (more compliant 'stock' feeling ride) will do the trick. You'll need to re-align the suspension afterwards. Congrats on the new toy ..

Looks nice. Congrats. Is it a '95, not '97, though? I thought the basket handle was only on '95s, but it could be different for Targas, or added later. The paint looks like it could be Polar Silver, too, which was used in 95 and 96.
