Default Kinematic - Hocus Pocus?

I always wonder if the kinematic adjustment is needed with every alignment. I understand the need if the struts or springs are changed causing height of the suspension changes but for general alignment is it really needed? I understand newer Porsche vehicles have the same suspension layout without the adjustability. I have learned that the adjustment may have been designed for a future state where the car would have 4 wheel steering and the kinematic setting would be adjusted dynamically on the fly. I also heard in the pre-electric 1990's suspension world the vendor quotes to engineer this were too expensive so it was not implemented.

Your thoughts?

Short answer - yes.

If you make any adjustments to rear camber you should recheck kinematic. Small adjustments to rear toe generally won't affect kinematic.

This is one of those "if you're going to do it, do it right" things.

+1, Any time you touch rear camber you must check KT.

I have fixed some mistakes made on a friends car where the alignment shop put 13mm of toe-in on each rear wheel (26mm toe-in total) instead of 13min's of toe. I checked the KT prior to making adjustments and after and there was no change in the balance ie, it remained the same left to right with only a half make movement of the bubble on the gauge.

I'd strongly recommend limiting KT by installing RS A-arms and KT arm, less is more even when out of optimal adjustment

Bill have you eliminated it alltogether or just have it limited as mentioned?

Mine is all RS except for the rear toe arms and steering tie rods which are mono-ball

13mm vs 13'
that is just beyond classic!

in the changes I've made to rear camber the kinematic was always affected.
I can't use the bubble on my coupe but the difference in 2 and 5 arm angle side to side was pretty big for a camber change of -3 to -2.6.
I don't know how big the difference can be until it matters.
the good news is stock or after market arms, kinematic is easy to adjust.
