Designing something that needs regular maintenance/replacement that impossible to get to by the average customer cant be anything but collusion with repair shops. I know there are design limitations depending on a million factors, but bulbs burn out all the time, especially after I installed an AFR gauge in my Audi and somehow shorted out taillights

Consider it a gift! Maybe part of the new ease of use they were headed for with the valve adjustment issue solved as well?

Dont forget Opel Omega and its relatives ... same same...
... out of Germany for more than 15 years, i think they got a new law which forces the car companies to go back to the old and easy days ....

He would be taking pictures of you doing oil change on 993. At least bulbs burn out every 5-7 years. Oil change is needed at least once a year.

The trucks aren't any easier. I've pulled headlights on one.

There is definitely a general progression toward more 'specialized' service needed in the car industry. Just take for example proprietary car computer reading software.

Whether its purely because cars have become infinitely more complex in the past half-century or not, they are harder to work on and a general PITA anyone to perform the simplest stuff on newer cars. Everything is crammed together so densely in an incredible puzzle. It's an interesting progression in the industry.

Cars, as well as most products, are made to be disposable now - so you come back and buy another. Not to mention the irony when everyone is screaming "recycle, recycle!"

The average hybrid-electric car battery lasts 7-10 years. At that point, the car has depreciated enough that the cost of a replacement battery is close to or eclipses the car's value. I doubt people are getting emotionally attached to their hybrids and willing to spend the car's value on a battery that might last a decade. So they buy another.

It's nice when there aren't seven-hundred boxes and panels to pull out just to change spark plugs in a car!

Take care,

Today, cars have inbuilt obsolescence
even Porsche ...
Just look at the header bolts. You might be able to recover the original bolts and nuts on your 993, the ones on the 996 / 997 are unrecognizable after 3 years ...
